Abridged Preface

what I cannot remember, I invent

What are we if not our memories?

There are two struggles in dealing with the past--the struggle to remember and the struggle to forget; for there are fond and froward memories and both of them sometimes cling at an equal measure, while the rest are feasible; but always we like to keep the relevant ones fresh.

What I cannot remember, I invent and what I do not wish to keep, I forget; and if I cannot forget, I fabricate. Thus this site.

dream chair and mood while working in front of the computerThis has started in August 2003. I have been unemployed for over five months. Who says idle hands are the devil's workshop? Or maybe it is. "Blogging," as I always tell friends or anyone who cares and is curious, is a good writing exercise and venue to vent emotions. Most of all, it is an apt place to practice discipline. Especially when you know you have an audience, you become careful about what you put (unlike with the traditional diary only you could access.) It (the writing) then becomes a test of fiction, or narratology. (What is important to share? And how.) A test of perception. A test of style.

she still struggles with her grammar and syntax

The creator? Piscean, presumida (according to her first boss), elitista. And more and more I am convinced that this girl has an attitude problem. Likes dressing up, although lazy in putting on make-up. As if she needs it. HA. Always believed to be a late bloomer (an excuse to put to tomorrow what can be done today.) Tech-savvy, but finds her site very, very poor. Rich in hunger and anticipation. For that, she plans to live a hundred and ten years--or more.

way ago in AgoncilloBorn in Agoncillo Manila, her first memory is that of the slums and the tightly knit families surrounding her--hers and not hers. Her first five years of schooling was spent in a public school (Saint Cyr Academy--aches to meet up again with Daryll and Doreen) where she realized she loves the taste and texture of chalk; which until now she eats.

From the start, she wanted to decipher poetry and its machinery. Until now, she knows too little. And she still struggles with her grammar and syntax.

Between television and radio, she would choose the radio. The kitchen is her haven. Can definitely live without a cell phone, but always waits and loves an unexpected call. Passionate about letters and keepsakes. Has furnitures obsession. Finds going to the dentist exciting and has no problems with injections. Has no problems with abortion. Never satisfied, but wouldn't exchange her self for anybody else. Distant, intrusive. Has a violent mind. Has a sponge for a heart. Has forgotten to hide her heart in her sleeve while building a wall around herself.

Has tried the corporate world and did not thrive. Nobody might believe this, but she is a happy person--very easy to please, very easy to like.

if only I could name half the world

Credits

Everything and everyone inspires me. If only I could name half the world, I would. But for the meantime, I can only make space for the obvious--

Mushiness aside, these are the people who helped making this personal site presentable: Llesner, my younger brother who has taught me a thing or two about photoshop--ok I admit, he is the one responsible for cropping the HOME icon--and is always there for technical support (and there whenever I need a crazy time.) My Ate Aina, for widening my horizon and making life easier for me by introducing me to CuteHTML and FrontPage; also for lending me and letting me play with her marvelous digicam. My father, 'Nonong' for this brand new and definitely improved PC--as the saying goes, "give a man a fish and he will eat for a day; teach a man how to use the internet and he won't bother you for months"--well he's given us more than the internet. Finally, my mother, 'Neri' who has no techincal nerve in her system--I have to mention her, so she won't feel left out. To give them the proper tribute, I've placed their photos below for acknowledgement. Just figure out who's who.

I also have to mention the sites that I cannot imagine not discovering. From my hosts to the sites who give generous tutorials and help. I love them because they offer their excellent services, READ: FREE.

And of course, my warm appreciation to the visitors who grace my guestbook and my day by visiting back, and back again. I do all this, because of rich communication.

A Soliloquy

1. Are you narcissistic? No-brainer. Yes.
2. Phobias? Am absolutely scared of being burned. How do you term that?
3. Favorite color? Purple. Am not fond of black and apparently, people would perceive me as a green lover. Well, yes also.
4. Your ultimate food fantasy? It's a tie between pesto with big shrimps, crab, chili flakes along with Red Sangria and my mother's Kare-Kare along with Pepsi cola. Water afterwards. Always.
5. You would die and kill to get a copy of... Gjertrud Schnackenberg's "Supernatural Love."
6. Favorite poem? None. Too difficult to choose. Alright, "The Bittern" by Sandra MacPherson.
7. If only you could write like... That's a trick question. Nobody can write the way I do. Each is her own writer. (side comment: This is not the Miss Universe Q&A.)
8. Crush? When I was six, I fell hard on the bicycle that my chin received four stitches.
9. Kapamilya ka ba o Kapuso? Siete. Which is to say I love Joey de Leon.
10. First book read? Hope for the Flowers.
11. First book read and loved? Hope for the Flowers.
12. Say something bad about you... I'm the epitome of selfishness.
13. You're proud that... I can be genuinely generous.
14. How involved are you in Philippine politics? 45%
15. Favorite music video? Triple tie between Metallica's "Hero of the Day," Mariah Carey's "Breakdown" with Bone-Thugh-and-Harmony and a recent addition, Incubus's "Talk Show On Mute."
16. Eraserheads or Parokya ni Edgar? Nothing beats the original E'Heads.
17. Why did you watch "That's Entertainment" when you were young? I blame my Ate. She was gaga over the UMD. Hinawaan niya 'ko.
18. Your most adorable quality? I adore people by being distant.
19. Cat or dog? As a pet, dog, but cats have more character.
20. You despise... Commuting on a rainy day.
21. If you were to have a magical power, what would that be? Be invisible.
22. Guilty pleasures? PEx. You know, the bashing. Don't worry, I just read.
23. Why don't you have a list of links you frequent on your site? I find it unnecessary. It won't appear integral to this site's concept.
24. Are you materialistic? Yes, very.
25. Any final words? None.
